An old local proverb says that the people of Kostel were born with a carrying bag. The proverb captures the essence of living in Kostel through the centuries where the living conditions were so harsh, people had to travel far away from home to earn their living lugging cargo. In 1492 the emperor Frederick III gave them the privileges to work as pedlars, which they embraced despite their frequent amendments. They carried their merchandise, often bootleg, through all the counties of the empire.

Programmes and activities
In recent years, during the pandemic, we have begun to appreciate the beauty within our own borders, but most of all, some of us have returned to nature and discovered the gems of Slovenia that might have stayed undiscovered until now. Let’s hope it stays this way. Kostel is definitely one of the destinations where a demanding nature-loving tourist gets the most for his/her money. Sports, adventure, cultural heritage, recent history, or simply “Dolce far niente” as the Italians would say in gorgeous nature of Kostel. Titbits from the study group:

“Just us, relaxing nature, local hospitality in the company of a shy kingfisher and an attentive heron. Can you wish for anything more, just a two-hour drive from the capital?«

“For many years, the underground settlements, built during the socialist era for the event of a nuclear war, presented a big mystery for me. Visiting them was a special experience. Rafting on the Kolpa river was the opposite of this experience, but it made our trip even more magical since it served as a cathartic cleansing of dark thoughts of a cataclysmic image of the imminent war. Embraced by nature, we were able to leave all the worries behind.«

The path of Kostel adventures
We would like to offer all our visitors the luxury of enjoying and experiencing beautiful and unspoiled nature and cuisine and at the same time, we would like to become the main organiser of business and sports events in the region.

Founding the company
The company was founded in 2019 along with the development of the boutique tourist area of Stelnik in Kostel.

Our goal is to unite the societies and organisations in the region as well as tourist and culinary offering, promote local artisans and offer a genuine tourist experience.

Our recommendation
To provide a pleasant stay while our guests discover the beauty of Kostel, we are renovating and planning to build different accommodation facilities, some of which are already available (Hiša na hribu), while others will open their doors in the near future.
